GASA Global Anti-Scam Summit – Asia Laid the Foundation for Industry Collaboration and Development
The first Global Anti-Scam Summit – Asia, held last year in Taiwan, was a resounding success and this year’s edition, moved to Singapore with government support, was equally impactful. The event attracted representatives from major international companies such as Amazon, Mastercard, Meta, Gogolook and Google, along with over 900 participants from government agencies, businesses, academics, and non-profit organizations across Asia. This year’s summit highlighted key issues such as the rise of AI-driven deep fake scams, government anti-scam policies and legislation, and the advancement of digital trust frameworks. Industry leaders from the telecom, cybersecurity, and financial sectors also discussed cross-sector collaborations and intelligence-sharing frameworks to address scam governance.
Jorij Abraham, Managing Director of GASA, stated, “As AI technologies evolve, scam methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated, posing serious threats to the people of Asia. This is why GASA has published the Asia Scam Report for two consecutive years and continues to host the Global Anti-Scam Summit Asia. These efforts aim to dissect scam methods and foster international cooperation and innovation in AI-driven anti-scam technologies. Through this summit, we hope to form substantial partnerships with companies worldwide, investing in scam prevention education, technological development, and accelerating legislative regulation to safeguard consumers.

Gogolook also led a panel discussion focusing on combating telecom scams, where representatives from Taiwan’s FarEasTone, Malaysia’s CelcomDigi, and the Philippines’ DITO discussed how the telecom industry can address the growing threat of scams through ecosystem collaboration and innovative technologies.
Furthermore, Jeff Kuo, Co-founder and CEO of Gogolook, was invited by Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information to participate in a panel on anti-scam policies. During the panel, Jeff shared Gogolook’s experience in cross-border public-private collaborations to combat scams, as well as efforts to raise scam awareness among vulnerable groups. The panel featured leaders from industries such as technology and finance, including Google, Meta, and Singapore’s OCBC Bank, all exchanging cross-sector perspectives.
Jeff Kuo remarked, “As we enter the second year of this summit, we’ve seen a strong commitment from governments like Singapore in tackling scam issues, as well as participation from major international players like Amazon, Mastercard, Meta, and Google. Asia Scam Report Unveils Rapidly Evolving Scam Tactics, With Over 30% of Victims Falling to Scam Trap Within an Hour
GASA, in collaboration with ScamAdviser, surveyed over 25,000 respondents from 13 regions in Asia, including China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysian, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, to publish the Asia Scam Report. The report explored the diverse methods used by scammers and the economic and social impacts, while offering specific recommendations for policy changes. It revealed that nearly 30% (27%) of Asian victims fall for scams within the first hour of encountering a scam, a figure consistent with Taiwanese respondents. This rapid response reflects how scammers exploit fear and greed to manipulate victims before they can react.
The frequency of scams varied significantly by region, with over 40% of Asians encountering scams monthly. Thailand and Hong Kong showed the highest frequency, with nearly 90% of respondents encountering scams at least once per month. In contrast, Taiwan’s scam frequency was lower, with 14% of respondents encountering scams daily, and 66% at least once a month. Identity theft, investment scams, and shopping scam were among the most common types of scams, with identity theft leading in six out of 13 surveyed regions. Phone calls and SMS remained the primary channels for scam propagation, but social media, email, and messaging apps were also frequently exploited. In Taiwan, 55% of respondents reported encountering scams on social media in the past year. Bank transfers remain the most frequently used payment method in scam transactions.
The Global Anti-Scam Summit – Asia has laid the foundation for the development of Asia’s anti-scam ecosystem, providing a platform for governments and leading companies to exchange ideas and join forces in the fight against scams. As a founding member of the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), Gogolook will continue to enhance its AI-driven trust technology solutions, including its digital anti-scam app Whoscall and its enterprise solution ScamAdviser, to address the growing scam threats of the AI era and offer comprehensive protection for global businesses and consumers.
