Whoscall Announced Thailand’s First Anti-Scam Knowledge Hub to Combat Online Scams

Gogolook, a leading TrustTech technology company and  the developer of the Whoscall application today announces the official launch of ‘Scam Alert’           (เตือนภัยกลโกง), Thailand’s first anti-scam knowledge hub on Whoscall application. Through the multi-sector collaboration, Whoscalls bring together verified resources and timely alerts from key public and private partners to establish a centralized anti-scam platform aimed at combating online scams nationwide.

In recent years, scams have become one of the most pervasive issues, impacting hundreds of thousands of Thai citizens annually. Between March 2022 to July 2024, the total financial damage reached nearly 70-billion-baht, equating to an average financial loss of 78 million baht per day. Initial findings from Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) Report 2024 further revealed only 55% of Thai people are confident in their ability to recognize scams with 89% revealed that they encounter scams at least once per month. Scammers are employing increasingly sophisticated methods to manipulate victims through unsolicited calls and spam messages as well as creating fake news articles and websites. For example, in the first six months of this year, Whoscall has already identified nearly 19 million scam calls. The Ministry of Digital Information and Safety (MDES) also blocked over 47,000 phishing websites between October 2023 – Aug 2024.

To effectively combat large amount information from unverified sources  and provide timely alert on the trending scams, Whoscalll together with eleven organizations including Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), Advanced Info Service Plc. (AIS) True Corporation Plc. (True), National Telecom Plc. (NT), Siam Commercial Bank Plc. (SCB), Thailand Media Fund, Thailand Consumer Council (TCC) and Co-Fact Thailand officially roll out Scam Alert feature by consolidating up-to-date and verified anti-scam information to alert and educate Thai citizens about potential scams across various industries.

Mr. Manwoo Joo, CEO of Gogolook Thailand, “The surge of online scams in Thailand calls for vigilance and actions. At Gogolook, our mission goes beyond offering comprehensive protection for consumers and businesses and enhancing their ability to combat scams by providing ongoing anti-scam education to the public like the Cyber Vaccinated program with Royal Thai Police. Nevertheless, scam prevention required concerted efforts from all stakeholders within our community. With the integration of Scam Alert into our application, we are not only reiterating our unwavering commitment to transform Whoscall into an all-in-one anti-scam solution for users to stay one step ahead of scammers, but we are also building an alliance of public and private sectors with the shared goal of promoting a safer, more secure and scam-free society for Thai people.”

Clinical Prof. Dr. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chairman of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) said “Cybercrime has become a significant threat affecting not only consumers but also state agencies and businesses alike. Over the past few years, NBTC has been actively working with law enforcement agencies and leading private organizations to strengthen Thailand’s defense against potential cybercrimes especially in the telecommunications business sector where standardize safety guidelines have been issued to address looming cyber threats. The Scam Alert initiative is another significant step towards creating a safer digital environment for Thai people through knowledge-sharing and fostering collaboration across public and private sectors. Together, we can empower every individual to stay informed and protected from the growing threat of online scams.”
